NFL Films has laid off 21 of its 283 workers.

Workers at the Mount Laurel-based company whose documentaries make football seem more epic than a game were told last week.

The layoffs were first reported in The Philadelphia Daily News.

The company, which has been documenting the NFL for more than 40 years, has run into difficulties on two fronts lately.

NFL Films President Steve Sabol says HBO decided not to renew "Inside the NFL" for next season.

NFL Films also does production work for the NFL Network, which has been the subject of a financial battle between the league and cable operators. But league spokesman Brian McCarthy says that dispute was not a factor in the layoffs.
