An ex-college professor will appeal a judge's decision to send him to prison for sexually assaulting a friend's niece. Tracy McIntosh is serving a 3½- to seven-year term for sexually assaulting the graduate student.

He started his prison term last month after prosecutors successfully challenged an earlier house-arrest sentence.

The presiding judge has asked McIntosh to cite the specific grounds for his appeal by early April.

The 54-year-old McIntosh, of Media, led Penn's Head Injury Research Center until his 2004 no-contest plea to felony sexual assault and marijuana possession charges.

He denies raping the victim.
