He was playing in the 200 block of East Oak Street around 8:15 last night when, witnesses say, he ran into the street.
Chavez was taken to Montgomery Hospital in very critical condition. He died a few hours later.
Police say a maroon or dark red 1997 Ford Taurus hit him. The man behind the wheel did not stop. The vehicle had Pennsylvania tags, license number GPA-9797, investigators said.
The striking vehicle is described as a 4-door maroon sedan with front driver side damage. Police say a man was driving the vehicle.
