Idol loses her voice

We won't be hearing much from Jordin Sparks the next couple of weeks. And that's due in part to the fact that we've heard so much from her since her "American Idol" days. The singer has been told to give her voice a rest for now. A spokeswoman for her label tells The Associated Press that Sparks has been ordered to shut it down for the rest of the month. That means she will sit out the first part of the Alicia Keys tour, which got under way this past weekend in Hampton, Virginia.

Sparks is currently under a doctor's care and may be able to return earlier than May, if she recovers quickly. A statement from her label notes Sparks "has been going nonstop over the past two years" and is now trying to learn "how to manage and care for her voice."

This past weekend, Sparks bowed out of an Earth Day event in Washington. She was to perform the national anthem.
