A Quaker City cabbie was the victim of a brutal attack Saturday morning. It all started just before daybreak when the suspect hopped into the cab on Broad Street near Butler Street.

Police say once inside the attacker demanded money, then attacked the cabbie, biting off one of his ears. The victim also suffered wounds to his abdomen and knee.

Investigators tell Action News the suspect then pushed the cabbie out of the car and took over the wheel. He didn't get far before crashing the cab into a SUV parked along southbound Broad Street near Pike Street.

The suspect fled the cab. A passerby spotted the man and flagged down police. Officers gave chase and caught the alleged attacker a short distance away.

The stolen money as well as the weapon used were both recovered in the vehicle. The 47-year-old suspect is in police custody facing numerous charges.

The cabbie, described as a 59-year-old male, was rushed to Temple Hospital for treatment where he is listed in stable condition.
