Dolphins can spend July 4th in NJ river

Federal environmental officials are letting a group of 15 dolphins stay in the Shrewsbury River through the July 4th weekend. There have been worries about heavy boat traffic due to a nearby fireworks display in Red Bank.

But officials say the danger of trying to move or scare the dolphins back out into the ocean outweighs the risk of letting them stay in the Shrewsbury River.

So authorities for now will try to keep boaters away from the animals.
