SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - August 28, 2008
The County of Lackawanna Transit System must pay $250,000 from
its operating budget to the Federal Transit Administration before
Sept. 30. The rest will be paid through deductions from federal
formula grants for the fiscal years 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Board members Thomas Moran and Tony Morell say the authority is
looking at cost-cutting measures to make up the $250,000, including
eliminating positions and joining an insurance consortium. They say
daily operations of COLTS and upcoming capital projects likely will
not suffer because the authority builds up unused capital money
each year.
