The ex-headmistress of Oprah Winfrey's school for girls in South Africa is suing the talk show host for defamation in Philadelphia.

Nomvuyo Mzamane's lawsuit claims that Winfrey falsely suggested that Mzamane knew about the alleged abuse by an employee and tried to cover it up.

The suit, filed Friday, seeks more than $250,000 on five defamation and related counts from Oprah Winfrey and her production company.

Mzamane formerly worked at a Quaker school in Philadelphia. She says she has returned to the city but cannot find work.

Winfrey's Harpo Productions has not yet responded to a call for comment.
