He faces a preliminary hearing Friday on simple assault, false imprisonment and harassment.
Police say Zearfaus hit the woman during an argument about 10 a.m. on Nov. 7 then returned to her apartment a half-hour later with a 31-foot chain, saying he didn't want her to leave. Police say he padlocked one end of the chain to her ankle and the other to a couch.
Police say the woman was freed by a neighbor who heard her yelling for help about 5:30 p.m.
