Democratic Gov.-elect Jack Markell has named a Republican to serve as his chief of staff. Markell says Dennis Rochford will assist him with the daily operation of the state and help develop a legislative agenda. Markell says Rochford offers the right combination of government and business experience.

By choosing a Republican, Markell says he is looking to put together the very best team.

Rochford currently serves as the president of the Maritime Exchange for the Delaware River & Bay. He ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 2000.
