Trash truck get stuck in Ogletown sinkhole

OGLETOWN, Del. - November 20, 2008 A 12-inch main broke at about 3:00 a.m. at the entrance to the University Plaza Shopping Center.

United Water crew responded and blocked off the area. Approximately two hours later a trash truck drove over the area and became stuck in the resulting sinkhole.

Tow trucks arrived on scene at about 7:45 to remove the truck. United Water Co. has isolated and shut off the water. Water service hs since been restored.

A spokesperson says the cold temperatures could be the cause, as this is a time of the year they begin to see breaks caused by changing temps.

Repairs to the roadway were expected to be complete by sometime Thursday afternoon.
