Police: Philadelphia boy tried to rape teacher

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - November 20, 2008 The seventh-grader allegedly tried to assault his 24-year-old teacher Monday afternoon after classes had been let out for the day.

Police say the boy threw the woman against a wall and tried to pull off her clothing. The teacher fought the boy off and summoned help.

The boy is charged with attempted rape, aggravated assault and related counts. He has been suspended and could be expelled from school. His identity has not been released.

School and teachers union officials are praising the teacher for her professionalism and poise during and after the attack.
