Chester Co. launches drug discount card

WEST CHESTER, PA.; December 3, 2008

Today, the county launched a prescription drug discount card program.

With the free card, uninsured or underinsured residents can get hefty savings at 100 pharmacies throughout Chester County, plus another 59-thousand drug stores nationwide.

The cards can also be used for drugs not covered by health plans.

The county is making the cards available through a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties. It offers 22 per cent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.

The card may be used by all Chester County residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage.

The program is run by CVS Caremark, and there is no cost to taxpayers.

100,000 cards are being distributed to community organizations, to go to residents.
