Hospital seeks new helipad

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (AP) - December 5, 2008

The Kutztown Airport is closing Jan. 31. That also means closing the helipad the Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown uses for MedEvac flights in Berks County.

Hospital spokesman Brian Downs says the hospital intends to continue providing helicopter service in Berks County and is looking for an alternative site.

Downs says if an existing licensed helipad cannot be found, the hospital may need to build one and have it licensed.

He says until a new site is found, the helicopter could be based at a temporary location, such as the hospital's Cedar Crest trauma center in Salisbury Township.
