Thieves strike neighborhood display

LEVITTOWN, Pa. - December 8, 2008 The Heitmeyer family is crazy about Christmas. They share that spirit with the entire community by staging an elaborate display on their lawn.

But, sometime Sunday night, the Grinch came by and stole that holiday spirit along with two big displays.

Karen Heitmeyer just bought a carousel last week along with Santa on a seesaw with his reindeer. Together they cost $350. Now, they're gone. It's left her feeling terrible.

The two displays are big and bulky, so Karen doesn't think it was teenage pranksters. The thief had to have been driving a pickup or box truck. Her display has become a neighborhood attraction over the years. She's been robbed, and so have the children.

The carousel and seesaw should be easy to spot if they now show up in someone else's yard. Now, Karen is ready to give up on her own display.

The Bristol Township police are investigating. If you've seen or heard anything at all that might be helpful, they'd like to hear from you at (267) 812-3011.
