Brown says Paana was is in his early 70s and suffered a severe abdominal injury in the explosion. He was listed in critical condition at the hospital earlier in the day, along with two other people.
Two others with lesser injuries were also hospitalized.
Officials could not immediately say where Paana was when the home in Rancho Cordova exploded. They believe the blast was caused by a natural gas leak.
