Elderly man critical after accident

CRANSTON HEIGHTS, Del. - December 26, 2008 Today at 7:47 p.m., County Police and Paramedics responded to the area of Hercules Road near the community of Westminster for a report of a head on collision with at least one vehicle overturned. When police arrived, they found a Jeep Cherokee overturned and a second Dodge sedan with heavy front end damage.

The male operator of the Jeep, 36, was removed from the vehicle and transported to the Christiana Hospital where he is being evaluated, but not seriously injured. The operator of the other vehicle is an elderly man who was suffering from severe head injuries. His status is listed as critical.

The preliminary investigation has revealed the Jeep Cherokee was traveling on Hercules Road and crossed over the center line striking the Dodge head on.

The roadway is expected to be closed for an hour or later as police complete the investigation.

Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
