Richard Goodwin of Lower Alsace Township, 50 miles northwest of Philadelphia, was declared a sexually violent predator, required to undergo sex offender treatment and register his address with state police for life.
Authorities said Goodwin began assaulting the girl when she was 5 and continued for five years. Goodwin pleaded guilty July 15 to indecent assault of a child under 13 and corrupting a minor. Dr. Veronique Valliere of the state Sexual Offenders Assessment Board said he claimed the girl initiated sexual contact.
Defense attorney Kurt Gieshauser argued against incarceration, citing Goodwin's age and saying he had health problems.
