Whooping cough found in Hunterdon Co.

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (AP) - January 14, 2009 Nine cases of pertussis are in Clinton. The other three cases are in Readington, Union and Delaware townships.

Officials say those who have the bacterial infection of the respiratory tract range in age from 7 to 12 years old.

Health officials say symptoms usually include coughing fits that may be followed by whooping noises and vomiting.

The health department says the contagious disease is usually spread through the air by close, indoor, repeated contact.
