NJ bill bars sex offenders from youth groups

Some sex offenders might be barred from coaching Little League, leading a Girl Scouts troupe or directing youth theater in New Jersey. The state Assembly on Thursday will consider a bill that would bar sex offenders convicted of violating minors from working for social, cultural and a host of other youth groups.

The measure does not apply to schools, whose employees and volunteers are covered by separate laws.

An offender who takes a paid or unpaid position in a group and the person who hired them would face prison time, fines or both.
