Vacations at an affordable price

August 24, 2009 You may have decided on a summer staycation because travel was out of your budget during the peak vacation season, but when you hear the deals available for late summer and fall, you might start packing your bags.

"Cruising is a wonderful value right now. The cruise industry is offering a promotion called "You Deserve a Cruise" and it's at unprecedented low prices," Travel Mom Emily Kaufman said.

For Europe 2010 voyages, Regent Seven Seas is offering 2-for-1 savings, free air, free unlimited shore excursions, and an additional $1000 savings per guest, but you must book by September 30th.

Book early on Carnival and if you find a lower rate later, the cruise line will give you a shipboard credit equal to the difference. Early birds on Holland America get 50-percent off deposits. No deposits required for third and fourth guests.

Theme parks and resorts are also offering deals galore for the fall and the best place to find specials is the internet. Look at the savings for Sea World and Busch Gardens.

"Also when you go to theme park websites, you can save up to fifteen-percent., buy adult tickets at kid prices," Kaufman said. Disney has fall promotions, too: 28-percent off room rates, free dining plan with certain packages, plus $400 off a four-night hotel and ticket package.

And finally, to fly college students home for breaks and holidays, Travel Mom says, "you want to make those plans early because peak season will sell out and be more expensive."
