MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (AP) - August 31, 2009
Classes are already in session at a handful of schools, but
dozens more will begin this week. Newark, the state's largest
district, will be open for classes on Thursday.
The break from tradition comes largely because Labor Day is
Sept. 7 - the latest it can possibly be. So don't expect lots of
schools to open early next year.
Each New Jersey district sets its own calendar.
In many states, schools usually open in August.
