Sketch released in Center City sex assault

CENTER CITY - September 1, 2009 It happened around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

According to investigators, the 21-year-old woman was arriving at her home in the 2100 block of Locust Street near Rittenhouse Square after going to a pizza shop. It was pouring down rain.

As she arrived home, a man approached her and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint.

"He came up from behind me and grabbed me up my skirt. Then I turned around and hit him and yelled at him. Then he said he had a knife," the victim told Action News.

"I maced him and then he started punching me. He pushed me down. I started yelling for help and maced him again," she said.

"I was really frightened. They said I did everything I should have done. I wasn't going to let him in my apartment at all. That was never an option. I'm just glad I'm okay."

The suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s to early 30s. He's about 5'10" tall with a slim build and a dark complexion, short hair and a goatee. He was wearing a black t-shirt, a navy blue jacket, and a red Phillies hat.

Police are warning women in the area to be on the lookout. An intense manhunt is underway.
