Sand where ordnance found in NJ to be reused

HARVEY CEDARS, N.J. (AP) - September 2, 2009 The Corps says it's taking extra steps to make sure the ordnance is gone before the sand is used to fill beaches on the Long Beach Island community of Harvey Cedars.

The munitions were found three years ago after the Corps pumped sand from the bottom of the ocean to replenish the beach in Surf City.

The work is expected to take six month and will begin this fall.
