C-5 sets unofficial records in Dover flight

DOVER, Del. (AP) - September 13, 2009 Base officials say the Dover crew unofficially set 41 world records during Sunday's flight.

The C-5M Super Galaxy took off before sawn. With a payload of 178,000 pounds, it climbed to 12,000 meters in less than 28 minutes - setting unofficial altitude, payload and time-to-climb records.

Those and other records are pending certification by the National Aeronautic Association. An NAA official observer was on site to document the world record attempts and says certification should take about a month.

Major Cory Bulris, the aircraft commander, says he and his seven-man crew are proud of their accomplishment.

The C-5 Galaxy is one of the world's largest aircraft.
