He was taken to the hospital bleeding from a laceration after hitting his head on a curb.
He is listed in stable condition.
The confrontation happened around 2:00 on Tuesday morning on the 4700 block of Tacawanna Street.
The 49-year-old officer came upon the man shortly after responding to reports in the area of a man with a gun.
After the fight, the injured officer was taken to Aria Health Torresdale Campus.
Officers have taken two suspects into custody. They face aggravated and simple assault as well as conspiracy charges among others.
Both suspects are juveniles.
