11-year-old hit and run victim recovers

TACONY - October 14, 2009 Last Thursday night, 11-year-old Daiheem Rhodes was riding his bike on Keystone Street near Friendship Street in Tacony when a hit and run driver nearly killed him.

The 6th Grader suffered kidney and liver damage.

"The car was zooming and hit me…when I got hit, I flew into a pole and it hit my ribs,"

Isis Rhodes, Daiheem's mother, wants that hit and run driver to surrender to police.

"Very horrifying, very terrifying, I know accidents happen, but for him to just hit him and just keep on going and leave him out on the street…he must be a real coward," Isis said.

After the hit and run, neighbor Mickey Finn called 911 and rushed to the injured boy's side.

"The Phillies game just got over and traffic started picking up on the street, it was right around rush hour, when I was trying to stop traffic for an ambulance there were people flying up the street," Finn said.

Neighbors say the 7000 block on Keystone is constantly used as a speedway by motorists racing to get on I-95.

"This is third child that has gotten hit…because cars come down here way too fast," resident Rita Randolph said.

Daiheem may be able to go home from the hospital in a few days.

Daiheem told Action News the car that hit him as white, but police say they are looking for a green, four door Ford sedan.
