The incident happened at 49th and Merion Streets around 7:15 p.m.
Police were pursuing a man fitting the description of a murder suspect when they were fired upon at least three times.
The officers took cover which allowed the man an opportunity to flee.
The officers were not injured.
There is no further information on the murder that began the pursuit at this time.
