Del. woman struck and killed by Md. state trooper
STEVENSVILLE, Md. (AP) - September 4, 2011
Maryland State Police says 29-year-old Iraina Curtis of Dover,
Del., was killed in the crash. It happened just before 9 p.m.
Friday on an access ramp off Route 50 in Stevensville.
Police say 24-year-old Trooper First Class Travis Nelson was
responding to a call for a burglary in progress in Stevensville.
Investigators say Nelson was not driving with his emergency lights
or siren activated.
Police say 20-year-old Jerome Wheeler of Magnolla, Del., was
with Curtis. Wheeler told investigators he and Curtis had been
sitting on a jersey wall when Curtis stood up to make a phone call
and was struck.
