Pa. trooper shoots, injures man during stand-off

MOCANAQUA, Pa. (AP) - November 28, 2009

Troopers say they discovered the car Friday afternoon at St. Mary's picnic grounds in Conyngham Township. Police say the man inside the vehicle refused to drop the gun he brandished.

Authorities tried negotiating for nearly five hours. A police report did not specify what prompted the trooper to fire on the man, who sustained a non-life-threatening injury.

The 37-year-old Pittston man has been charged with burglary, aggravated assault and other offenses.

Police say the suspect was arraigned at the hospital and is being held on $50,000 bail. The trooper has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation.
