Cop breaks hand while trying to arrest suspect

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - November 30, 2009

The Philadelphia police officer somehow broke his hand during the incident.

It all started about 12:30 Monday morning, when officers spotted a man who they say is a suspect in several robberies in Southwest Philadelphia.

The chase began near Jefferson and Gratz streets.

At some point officers were able to catch up to the man and arrest him.

Police have not yet said if the injured officer broke his hand after overtaking the suspect.

The officer is being treated at Jefferson Hospital, where he is expected to be released soon.

The suspect remains in custody where he faces robbery and other charges.
