The DMV says Comfort Ride Express was placed on probation this week for not performing adequate background checks on workers.
Fifty-one-year-old Leslie Small was charged last month with fatally stabbing June McCarson with a pair of scissors after driving her to a bank, hairdresser and drugstore.
But DMV officials say Small's criminal history should have prevented him from working as a driver. Court records show he was convicted for robbing women in the Lewes area.
DMV officials say the company didn't adequately investigate the criminal charges Small indicated on forms and a report that showed significant criminal convictions.
