Arrest in shooting of man on way to work

EAST MOUNT AIRY - December 17, 2009

The shooting happened just before 6:00 near the intersection of Chew Avenue and Phil Ellena Street in the East Mount Airy section of Philadelphia.

The victim was standing at a bus stop on his way to work when he was shot.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses tell police a masked man was seen fleeing the scene on foot.

Then, around 10:45 a.m., police surrounded a house on the 200 block of Garrett Street where the suspect barricaded himself inside.

He was eventually brought into custody.

There is no word on that man's identity, or that of the victim.
