Police said the 38-year-old man's wound was not life-threatening and he was being treated at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said the man, identified as Chad Fulginiti of Millsboro, was initially involved in a domestic disturbance in the Long Neck area of Sussex County and fled in his vehicle with a handgun. Police later spotted the vehicle on Delaware 1 near the Indian River Inlet Bridge and followed it to a marina development.
Whitmarsh gave no details of the domestic disturbance or the confrontation. He said a trooper shot Fulginiti in the hand about 7:30 p.m.
