Authorities say Perth Amboy firefighters couldn't battle the flames inside the two-story home Monday until they were certain all the ammo had cooled down.
Firefighters initially directed water from the outside through a second floor window.
A man who lived in the home with his mother was treated for smoke inhalation.
Three handguns, a shotgun and rifle were turned over the police.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
