Store clerk holds would-be robber for police

WILMINGTON, Del. - April 21, 2010

State troopers were called to the Pantry 1 Food Market at 2901 Concord Pike in Wilmington around 12:13 p.m. Tuesday.

Once there, investigators learned a man, identified as Shannon Harris, 30, of Wilmington, entered the store and approached the clerk.

Police say that's when Harrison pulled out a gun and demanded cash. However, the clerk refused and, police say, Harrison simply started walking out the door.

Not content to leave it there, the clerk notified police then went after Harrison, knocking him to the ground.

An off-duty Wilmington police officer, who happened to be driving by saw the struggle, stopped, and helped hold Harrison until troopers arrived.

Harrison was arrested and found to be in possession of an air gun, made to look like a handgun.

He was charged with attempted robbery and sent to prison on $20,000 secured bond.
