Baby giraffe gets a name at Phila. Zoo

PHILADELPHIA - September 2, 2010

Thanks to public voting, the little giraffe's name is Abigail (or Abby, for short).

The female giraffe was born back on July 17th.

Abigail is the first giraffe calf born at the Philadelphia Zoo in 13 years and was delivered after a gestation period of approximately 15 months.

The baby was born to 9-year old Stella and her mate, Gus, 4.

Visitors can see little Abby on exhibit from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Labor Day weekend at the Philadelphia Zoo.

The Philadelphia Zoo allows visitors to take part in their ADOPT program that benefits the care of the animals, including Abby. For more information, you can visit philadelphiazoo.org.
