Man with drunken driving history admits guilt

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. - September 14, 2010

John Lawless told a judge Monday he drank at least 12 beers before driving and killing Frederick Shelton of Lower Township in 2009.

It was the 38-year-old's fifth drunken-driving conviction. His license had been suspended since 2001.

Lawless had four DWI convictions in Pennsylvania and he was arrested seven times for driving while intoxicated between 1996 and the 2009 crash.

Lawless faces between 10 and 30 years in prison when he's sentenced.
