One accident involving a pair of trucks, happened Thursday morning at about 2:45, on the southbound lanes of the Northeast Extension just south of the Lansdale exit near Towamencin, Montgomery County.
The trucks collided, and one of them lost its cargo of rocks on the roadway. Police closed the highway while the trailer was unloaded.
Authorities tell Action News there was also a fuel spill involved. The accident closed the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike for more than three hours.
One of the tractor trailer drivers was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment of a head injury.
Then, just north of the Quakertown exit - still in the southbound lanes - there was an accident at around 5:00 a.m. that had one lane of the highway closed
Drivers were being advised to find alternate routes.
That stretch of the turnpike has also reopened.
