Woman's abduction leads to police chase in NJ

WASHINGTON TWP., N.J. - September 19, 2010

It began around 11:45 a.m. Saturday when someone called 911 to say a woman was being held against her will by her ex-boyfriend at a home on Myrtle Avenue in Washington Township.

Arriving officers learned the suspect, 43-year-old Mark Coffman, had taken the victim in a car and was travelling in the area of Route 42 near Johnson Road.

Police tried to stop the car, but Coffman allegedly took off down Route 322 onto the Atlantic City Expressway.

Coffman then exited onto Whitehall Road in Franklin Township where, police say, he stopped.

Coffman then took his ex-girlfriend and fled into the woods, police said.

Both were soon found after a search involving SWAT members and the NJ State Police helicopter.

Coffman was taken into custody and charged with terroristic threats, burglary and criminal restraint. Bail was set at $75,000 full cash bail.
