District Attorney Seth Williams says the officers acted properly during the confrontation with 26-year-old Vincent Parsons. He said Parsons fired first and the officers had no choice but to return fire.
Officials say the officers approached Parsons in the Germantown section of the city on April 2 and he fled to Happy Hollow playground. One of the officers saw that Parsons was armed and told the adults and children there to leave.
Officials say Parsons then fired twice and the three officers returned fire, killing him. No one else was injured. Police said Parsons was carrying drugs and was wanted on federal firearms charges.
