Flames broke out in the 3200 block of N. 17th Street around 8:00 p.m. Monday.
Two people safely escaped. However, firefighters reported that the burnt remains of a man's body were discovered on the first floor.
Firefighters say there were fire alarms inside, but they did not have working batteries.
Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers is reporting 25 fire related deaths so far this year in Philadelphia. With that said, in conjunction with Daylight Saving Time, the fire department is urging everyone on November 7th to change the batteries on their smoke alarms when they change their clocks as well.
