Iverson: 'My whole thing was being wanted'

NEW YORK (AP) - October 29, 2010

The former NBA MVP has signed a $4 million, two-year contract with Turkish club Besiktas after waiting in vain all offseason for an offer from an NBA franchise.

The four-time league scoring champion played three games for Memphis last season before he returned for a second stint with Philadelphia, where he spent most of his career. Iverson averaged 13.9 points for the Sixers before taking a leave of absence to deal with family issues.

Iverson said Thursday that those issues have been resolved.

He admitted he was "a little surprised" that no NBA teams were willing to give him a shot. He said he was willing to assume any role necessary, even if that meant coming off the bench.
