Twenty-seven-year-old Marianella Torres-Matos of Allentown pleaded guilty in September to involuntary manslaughter in the November 2009 death of her 14-month-old son.
Authorities said she left the boy and his 2-year-old sister in an apartment while she ran errands and later found that a 160-pound dresser had toppled onto him. He died later the same day at a hospital.
The defendant wept as she addressed Lehigh County President Judge William Platt through an interpreter on Monday. She said "I pleaded guilty because I left him alone, but I didn't kill him."
