The incident happened around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in the 3100 block of Morse Street.
Two highway patrol officers responded to a call of a woman being attacked by a pit bull.
When the dog lunged at the officers, the two fired, killing the dog.
The officers were unhurt.
The injured woman is being treated at Temple University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
