Christopher Lynn Johnson of Fairfield is charged criminal homicide as well as weapons and hunting law violations in the slaying of Wildlife Conservation Officer David Grove.

Police say the 27-year-old Johnson shot Grove while he was investigating poaching in a rural area on the night of Nov. 11. Investigators say Johnson confessed, telling them he was a felon in possession of a gun and didn't want to go back to prison.

Johnson's lawyer has asked the public not to jump to conclusions because deserves a fair trial.
