According to investigators, alcohol is thought to be a contributing factor in the crash.
At 2:23 a.m., county police and paramedics responded to the intersection of Powder Horn Drive and South Gerald Drive, in the development of Fox Chase.
When officers arrived, the driver, identified as 19-year-old Jacob Brown, was found to be semi-responsive and trapped in his vehicle, a Dodge Intrepid. Police say the car had heavy front end damage. The teen had to be extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel.
He was transported to Christiana Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit with internal injuries and severe head trauma.
According to police, Brown was traveling northbound on South Gerald Drive when his car traveled across the roadway and crashed into a tree.
The crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
