Police say an Irish citizen wanted for a hit-and-run crash outside Philadelphia was pulled off a flight at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport as he tried to flee the country.

Upper Darby police say 28-year-old Damian Crossan was escorted off the Ireland-bound flight on Wednesday night. Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says Crossan confessed to striking a 32-year-old woman on February 2 after he was taken into custody.

Chitwood says investigators received a tip that Crossan was responsible. Authorities say his pickup was in the airport's long-term parking area and had damage consistent with the crash.

The injured woman remains hospitalized in serious condition with injuries to her head, brain and hips.

It was not clear if Crossan had an attorney.
