The Fairleigh Dickinson-PublicMind poll released Wednesday shows 51 percent approve of the way Christie is handling his job; 41 percent disapprove.
The same sample says it wants Democrats to control the Assembly and Senate after the November elections by a margin of 41-36 percent.
Pollster Peter Woolley says it'll be difficult for Republicans to translate support for Christie into legislative gains because a new district map and voter registration numbers favor Democrats.
The telephone poll of 711 registered voters was conducted March 29-April 4, and has an error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
