Seal takes a break on Delaware beach

DELAWARE CITY - April 6, 2011

The seal appeared on Tuesday night and was still hanging out on Wednesday.

Suzanne Thurman with the MERR Institute says the seal looks healthy and has good, alert behavior with no visible signs of injury.

She says there have been one to two seals showing up per day on Delaware beaches and inland bays in the past two weeks.

They are migrating north to Canada and New England this time of year and typically come out of the water to rest during the migration.

Volunteers will be on hand periodically today to monitor the seal and educate spectators who show up for a look.
